All shortcuts for the Square One editor and puzzle player. Press ? at any time inside the editor to see a quick reference overlay.

Grid Navigation

←→↑↓
Move cursor one cell in any direction
Home
Jump to the first cell of the current word
End
Jump to the last cell of the current word
Enter
Toggle typing direction (Across ↔ Down)
Click cell
Select that cell
Click selected cell
Toggle direction on the already-selected cell

Grid Editing

A–Z
Type a letter into the selected cell and advance the cursor
BackspaceDelete
Clear the selected cell and move cursor back
Space
Toggle the selected cell between black and white
Right-click
Open context menu (rebus entry, color picker, cell type)

Undo & Save

Ctrl+Z
Undo last action
Ctrl+YCtrl+Shift+Z
Redo

Save the puzzle immediately

Clue Panel

Tab
Move to the next clue textarea (wraps from Across → Down → back)
Shift+Tab

Tips for keyboard-only editing

Navigation
Start at the top-left cell and use arrow keys to navigate. The grid scrolls to keep the selected cell in view.
Switching direction
Press Enter to flip between filling across and down without reaching for the mouse.
Jumping within a word
Use Home and End to jump to the start or end of the current word for quick review or fixes.
Clue editing
Tab cycles through every clue in grid order so you can fill them all without touching the mouse.
Type-ahead autocomplete
The suggestion list in clue textareas lets you autocomplete words. Use arrow keys and Enter to pick one instantly.
